Nearly a dozen cases of filler injection accidents in half a month

After injecting filler to lift the nose, the young girl felt blurred vision and intense pain. Another person's eyes were puffy, unable to open after injecting this substance into the temple.

On April 29, Dr. Vu Thai Ha, Head of the Department of Research and Application of Stem Cell Technology (Central Hospital of Dermatology), said that recently, the hospital continuously received many cases of complications due to filler injection at the hospital. spas, beauty establishments.

The latest case is a 25-year-old female patient who lost her vision after injecting fillers to lift her nose at the spa.

According to the patient, shortly after the injection, she had a feeling of blurred vision and severe pain. Although the spa staff have injected the antidote, these symptoms have not improved.

Three hours after the injection, the patient was taken to Hanoi for emergency treatment, vascular intervention and fortunately, his eyesight was gradually restored.

Improper injection technique is the cause of the patient's near blindness, Dr. Ha said.

Instead of plumping the face, the filler injection area on the patient's temple formed an abscess.

In the past 2 weeks, the Central Hospital of Dermatology has recorded nearly 10 cases of complications due to filler injection. All patients are female.

The oldest of these cases is a 60-year-old woman who suffered from infection and swelling after injecting fillers to remove wrinkles on her face.

Another case is a 30-year-old patient (Hanoi) injecting fillers into the temples at a spa. One week after the injection, the patient went to the Central Dermatology Hospital in a state of puffy eyes, unable to open his eyes. Instead of plumping the face, the filler injection area on the temple has formed an abscess.

The doctors sucked out about 3 -4 cc of yellow pus, treated the abscess to avoid spreading to the entire face and risk of blood infection.

Another case is a female patient with an abscess in the cheek area after injecting filler to create "baby cheeks". In particular, an overseas Vietnamese woman became paralyzed after receiving botox injections to slim her biceps.

According to Dr. Ha, the common point is that these cases are all beautified at unlicensed, unreliable facilities and use floating fillers of unknown origin.

According to the expert, in cosmetic procedures, filler injection belongs to the first group because of convenience, there is no need to rest after the intervention. Meanwhile, the results after injection are visible immediately. In particular, currently the main filler is HA with drugs to solve.

However, the rampant appearance of injection services everywhere, the injectors who have not yet learned about injection techniques, and the blind trust of a part of customers make the accident rate because of filler injection in Vietnam at a low level. high.

Complications from filler injections can have cosmetic consequences, even causing blindness, paralysis of limbs, coma, Dr. Vu Thai Ha warned.

Recently, after the Covid-19 epidemic was under control, life gradually returned to the "new normal", many women are more interested in beauty treatments, including filler injection services.

Affirming that this is a completely legitimate need, Dr. Ha recommends that women need to choose reputable medical facilities, hospitals with specializing in beauty and cosmetology. Fillers must be licensed by the Ministry of Health.
